I stumbled upon this at two in the morning and thought I'd share it right away. It's true what the title says. It was announced at a press event held yesterday for DC that Gackt will be doing the theme song for the game called "Redemption" and an insert song called "Longing". But that's not all. He will also play a role in the game, using some new technique of combining live action film and CGI. Nomura even designed a special outfit for him. You can see some pictures (and if you're proficient in Japanese, read about it as well) from here: www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20051103/dirge.htmI actually learned about it while poking around some livejournals (looking for a Hyde community, ironically) but I confirmed what I read here: www.adventchildren.net/ I'm not a big Gackt fan, so I'm not sure what to think, personally. I guess we'll just have to see how it turns out. Edit: Silly me, I forgot to mention that along with the news on Gackt, an official release date was also given. Dirge of Cerberus hits Japanese shelves on the 26th of January 2006. I also got a clip of the song 'Redemption' from adventchildren.net today. It's only seventeen seconds long and someone is talking over part of it but it's quite obvious that the song has a edgy rock feel to it. Not bad, based off just the little I heard.

The enthusiasm I had for the game is gone...completely.

I'm not a big fan of Gackt either, but I still have high hopes for this game. It looks like it's going to be awesome.

So there's a version of the "Redemption" music video which features completely clips from the game floating around Japanese vg stores and the net. Has anyone seen it yet and did you get have a fangasm?

The one that starts off with Vincent and Yuffie talking, I think? I've seen it, looked awesome! Don't quite think I fangasmed though. I like it better than the original video, and the game itself looks pretty cool. I hope it plays as good as it looks.

Yep, that's the one. All I remember before my head exploading was seeing Lucrecia and being like "HOMFG". Man, Square is really whoring FF7, but I can't help, but be their loyal follower . Is Gackt a good guy or bad guy in the game?

Oh yeah, I saw Lucrecia in a magzine scan before that, so I wasn't very surprised. I can't help but wonder what they'll end up doing with her, though. I'm not sure what Gackt's role in the game is exactly, as I haven't looked up any spoilers since the game's release. The producer of DoC did say in an interview, however, that Gackt's character is like a 'prologue' and has lots of scope for expansion in the future. Kind of seems to hint that this won't be Gackt's last appearance in a Square-Enix project. Wonder if they intend to give him a game of his own at some point? If you're interested in reading that interveiw and the other things that were said about Gackt, you can find it here: www.adventchildren.net/fullstory.php?subaction=showfull&id=1138303015&archive=&start_from=&ucat=36&

That's almost frightening...thinking of Gackt in more S-E games. Is he providing his own voice too and are the voices for the FF7 characters the same as they were in AC? I reaaaaaaally liked Vincent's voice and I think his actor was just a dorama actor up until then.

Very frightening. I don't think they've said anything about assigning his character any other VA, so I would assume he's voicing himself. I think Nomura said that he intends to use the same voice actors for all Final Fantasy 7 projects, so I believe the actors will be the same. It's been awhile since I've seen AC, but I want to think that Vincent's voice in the DoC trailer sounded the same as in AC. Makes me wonder who they'll pick for the American voice actors, if we ever get AC here in the US. Any ideas on who they should pick?

Oh noooooooooes. I hope Gackt doesn't do his own English voice too. I'm afraid he'd enjoy that. I'm glad Vincent's voice is the same, reaaaaaally sexy. Sadly, the first and only person I can come up with right now is Marilyn Manson. What about you?

I didn't even consider what they'd do for his character when they brought the game over here. Does he speak English? Hmm, Marilyn Manson, that's an interesting choice. I've never really heard him speak before though, that I recall, only sing. I don't really have any ideas myself, but I know I probably wouldn't hire Hollywood actors the way they seem to be doing. I'd probably stick with people who voice acted professionally for games or anime. Edit: Okay, so it seems the VAs have been chosen by now. Vincent will be played by Steve Blum (Cowboy Bebop's Spike Spiegel and Samurai Champloo's Mugen), Barett will be played by Beau Billingslea (Cowboy Bebop's Jet Black), Rude will be played by Crispin Freeman (Hellsing's Alucard, Ghost in the Shell's Togusa, and Soul Calibur 3's Siegfried). Those are really the only ones I recognize from other places, but you can take a look at the whole list here: www.adventchildren.net/fullstory.php?subaction=showfull&id=1139862761&archive=&start_from=&ucat=2&I'm glad they didn't stick with Hollywood actors.

Manson speaks so mellow, it's scary, by far the most frightening thing.
Does anyone know how you get to the Gackt character?
