Alucard of course! Do any of the others actually compare?
I just picked up on this series recently, the anime first, and now the manga (up to about volume five so far). I've also seen the first OVA episode. Has anyone else?
I watched it over at YouTube and sadly, the quality of it was horribly mutilated so I can't comment on the animation. Also, the music is indeed done by some other person and isn't anywhere near as good. In fact, I don't really remember it at all, whereas the anime soundtrack really stuck out to me.
Favorite song? It would be either 'World Without Logos', 'Atonement Gypsy', or 'Pure Death'.

Love Hellsing. I've only got volume 1 of the manga and the first two volumes on DVD, but I still love it. Alucard is such a BAMF (bad-ass motherf--ker). Interga is very hot (especially in the manga, where she's in much more detail), and the story's just plain kickass.
And for the record, I'd let Victoria bite me ANY day of the millenium. As long as I get to be with her...(Caution, Victoria Seras fanboy alert!)

I must agree. Integra's hotter than Michael Jackson at Disneyland.

So had anyone seen the first OVA since it was released in English? I have it on DVD, and I've seen the second one subbed. Sadly, the third OVA that was supposed to be released this month has been pushed back, because apparently the Alexander Anderson figures that were going to come with the collector's edition weren't finished in time.
Do you think it's an improvement over the anime? I think it'll definately be an improvement in plot, as it follows the manga.

It's great to hear that it follows the manga, because the anime just cut that short like a wick. I stttttill have yet to see it, but I'm glad to know it's on youtube, so I'll get around to watching it when I have some free time. I'm so disappointed to hear that the music's different. The music for the anime was SPECTACULAR. It's pretty obvious my favorite song is Bodhisattva Cathedral. I love how it just picks up 1/2 way through. World without Logos however is a close second. May I ask where in the manga it picks up at?

Yeah, the OVA music is orchestral. Pretty boring in comparison to the anime's music. Bodhisattva Cathedral is a really awesome song. So imagine my dissapointment when I picked up the domesticated soundtrack at FYE to find that Pioneer had cut the second half of the song out? That made me sad... thankfully, the internet solves all problems.
Actually, it goes from the beginning. The first OVA is fairly identical to the first few episodes of the anime, with a few variations that make it truer to the manga. And more gore. The first one sort of jumps around, covering about three different episodes of the anime but the second covers... maybe one or two? Focuses predominantly on a certain destructive vampire duo. The third that hasn't come out yet is where we should finally start seeing the OVA split from the anime. There are supposed to be ten episodes of it, one for each volume of the manga, so it's supposed to go from the beginning to the very end.

Your whole first paragraph is SO DAMN DISAPPOINTING. Makes me really want to cry. Ah, that's interesting. After the third's released I'll definitely have to start watching it. You know I don't know if the OVA puts a bad light on the original series or not. You see I liked it, but not how it cut-off from the manga, but it was good on it's own, wasn't it? Now the OVA seems to be the polar opposite cutting-off from the anime. Very strange. What do you think, if any of what I'm blabbering about makes snese?

I forgot all about the OVA. Now I feel like a dumb ass.

I think it's difficult to compare them, really. The anime had a different sense of style than this one does, partially due to the difference in music and partially due to the influence of the manga on the OVA.
Right now I have high hopes for the OVA. The animation is nice and solid, fluid, and even while the music is easily forgettable it serves its purpose. And, having read all but the latest chapters of the manga I know the OVA is going to grand places as far as plot is concerned. So, even if the OVA seems to be cutting off from the anime it's going to answers question the anime never did. It'll also introduce new characters and develop Seras into a stronger, more useful entity. And of course, her boobs seem to be growing with each new OVA episode.
I won't say the OVA puts the anime in a bad light. Just a different one.

Hehe. I loves hellsing. I'm proud to announce I just got my newest Hellsing shirt in the mail (Go me!) The first thing that drew me to this series...Was that smile... Alucard...and his insane creepy smile... Its so cool! I wanna smile like that! I want those teeth and that tounge! *People are looking at me funny* Anywho, I'm looking forward to the OVA. I need to start saving pennies again.. (Why can't I just get a friggin job? NO! You don't need a job! Wait till you graduate, you got a good thing going here so don't ruin it! Shut up, me! Hellsing is worth it! Well maybe I'm right...)

Hellsing is worth it. I'd start collecting the OVA, buuuuuuuut I'm saving my pennies for Japanese doramas which I like just a bit more. The trailer looks great. It seems to remind me of the Dawn series just a bit. Maybe they'll throw some of it in the mix as well? I'm really looking forward to the OVA now. It sure was good seeing Pip.

I think they might throw some of Dawn in there too. There was a shot of 'Girlycard' at the end of the first OVA's credits too, so they're hinting at it. Anyway, don't let lack of pennies deprive you. I want to think both OVAs (subbed only, of course) are still up on YouTube, if you don't mind the quality.
