"Siren, a survival horror game and one of Sony's more interesting original releases this generation, is receiving the live action film treatment next year in Japan. Scheduled to debut February 11th to match the release of Siren 2, the movie is still in production.
The film which is being directed by Sada Yoshihiko, know for "Keizoku" and "TRICK," and is currently in high gear to make the February deadline. Of course, since a film is nothing without its star, the lead actress for Siren will be Ichikawa Yui.
The film sticks close to the game's setting on the island of Yamijima off the coast of Japan, the inhabitants disappeared after mysterious siren rang out 29 years ago. In present day, a young girl and her family have moved to the island and as the siren begins to ring again, the she's thrown into a frightful world as she becomes entangled in the strange phenomenon.
The film will actually use the vision stealing system featured in the games, allowing players to see the world through someone else's eyes. The movie should also contain story links to both games for fans.
Considering the Siren games already used real actors and actresses' faces in FMV form and the plot of the game already borrowed heavily from modern Japanese horror films, this next step as a real film seems to make sense. Maybe Sony can release the film as a bonus alongside Siren 2 whenever they get around to a US release. "

Gamespot says:
"The movie version of Siren takes place in Yamijima, a fictitious island where all the inhabitants vanished without a trace 29 years ago. The heroine comes to Yamijima to help out her little brother, who's resting there after an illness. However, she soon starts to encounter strange phenomena on the island, where an ordinance forbids anyone from going outside when the local air-raid siren is sounding."
