Electronic control design is a branch of mechanical engineering that deals with the design of electronic devices and its electronic components. This requires years of experience and deep knowledge of mechanical, electronic, control, computer and system design fields. From designing the microprocessor in the motherboard of a computer to integrated circuits in vehicles and other hardware, the applications of Electronic control design are many.
The interesting part is that the demand for experienced personnel in this area is huge and there are not enough individuals who possess extensive knowledge in this field. The huge demand in the mechanical and electronic fields is what led to the various mechatronics courses offered throughout the world by many universities. Only a person with extensive knowledge and experience in computers, micro-controllers, programmable logic controllers and programming can perform the task with perfection. It is a very complex and sophisticated process and needs to be done with utmost care.
Individuals having proficiency with industrial sensors, hydraulic, pneumatic and electric drives, design of mechanical structures etc. will have an added advantage. With numerous applications now using electronic controls, the demand for newer, advanced technologies is steadily rising. In the automobile field, the applications of electronic controls are mainly in electronic power steering, the ignition system, anti-lock braking system, air bags control, navigation system, timed wiper, heat adjustment, timed wiper etc. In home appliances like microwave ovens, automatic washing machines, embedded electronic controls are used to adjust and set the timing as to when to switch on and off the systems etc.
