So, who likes Edgar Allen Poe. What are your favorite poems and/or short stories?
My fav poems are "Lenore" and "The Raven" and I think my favorite short story was "The Pit and the Pendulum".

The Tell-Tale Heart and The Pit and the Pendulum are probably my fav pieces of writing from Poe. Um, there was another short story I liked but I can't remember the name of it; it was the one where the main character hung a cat and it basically came back to haunt him. I think it was called The Black Cat, but I'm not sure.

I love the darkness of his stories and poetry. I've only read a few, but I like Lenore and The Raven. The short story I read was Masqurade Of Red Death or something like that.

The Masque of the Red Death is my favorite...definatly. But then you have Morning On the Wissahiccon, The Murders In the Rue Morgue, A Descent Into the Maelstrom, The Devil In the Belfry, A Dream, To One In Paradise, The Island of the Fay, The Raven, The Spectacles, Evening Star, Fall of the House of Usher...those are all the ones i remember reading. There was a story that had sumthing aout a heartbeat in a wall or floor or sumthing...i dont really remember...that was a while ago...and i read it in school so i wasnt paying attention.

I was the biggest fan of Edgar Allen Poe up until my Senior year of high school. He's still one of my favorite writers but I think that I've read him to death XD. I've done countless literary papers based on him. I even wrote a paper in his point of view up until his burial. THAT was an interesting write.
Anyway, there's so much meaning in his poetry and stories. You can't take them at face value. The man himself was such a sad character. His life was devastating and twisted. There was so much death, and sickness and rejection. When he WAS happy it was only for a short time.... Like with his wife Virgina (who was also his cousin). I could go on and on...
Anyway, Tell Tale Heart was a good one especially if you sit and think about it. XD This man was NUTS to think he could get away with cutting a body up and hiding it under the floorboards.
Fall of the House of Usher, I had trouble sleeping after that one.
I memorized the poem THE RAVEN when I was in 8th grade, but I still like it.
Three Sundays in a Week was so clever! One of his lighter stories that actually had a happy ending. hm.

It seems that a lot of great authors or painters have lived tragically. that report you did is so interesting.

Poe is my favorite to read. So dark and just plain awesome. I love it. I've posted before but I've read somemore by him since. "Tell Tale Heart" and "The Cask of Amontillado" are great.
