Does anyone watch this show?
It's on Adult Swim so I'm sure someone has. It's quite an odd show which is why I like it. It's about people who are in an emotional crisis who get attacked or "saved" by this mysterious kid with golden rollerblades and a bent golden bat called "Little Slugger".
A really great series for people who like the weird stuff.

It's not a bad series, but as you said, weird. I'll watch it from time to time. I'm still confused about that designer-girl, her little talking creature, and Lil Slugger.

Oooh same here. There is that weird connection, but for that I'm totally lost since I missed a few episodes.

I'm not into it or shows like it that play with your mind, but Little Slugger's pretty cool. Total gangster.

Now...things have gotten so screwed up, I'm almost confused. I think that the Maromi and Lil Slugger in the present are just figments of Tsukiko's imagination or something.

Yeah, it could be. Things are so far out there now I wouldn't doubt it.

So...ugh I think I need to rewatch the series. I was pretty much right about my Lil Slugger theory, but a lot of questions were unanswered for me in the series like how he was manifested in reality and what the heck was up with the final scene and the look on that guy's face.
Could it be that there's a Lil Slugger in all of us?

By now you've probably rewatched all the episodes, but I figured I'd offer what I could, anyway. Unfortunately, one of the key elements of the anime's theme is explained (in a sense) after the end of the last episode. On the DVDs, after every episode was a 'prophecy' sequence which was pretty much just a preview of the next episode. Adult Swim cut all of these, which is fine except that the last one was not a preview but an explanation or hint. It was never aired, so it left a lot of people going 'huh?' I don't know how to blank out spoilers (tags didn't seem to work for me) so if you don't want know, don't read below here!* * All of the prophetic visions but the last one were spoken by the creepy old man that we see doing math equations in the first episode. The final prophetic vision is spoken by Maniwa, the younger of the two detectives who fights Lil' Slugger in later episodes. "To begin, the story that seems to have ended spins back to the place where it began. Following each stepping stone and connecting the dots, you find the eternal castle of recurring dreams. No mystery remains unsolved forever, and no answer is without mystery. Well, then. We bid you farewell."
Basically, it means the story is cyclical, that it will all begin again. That's why the end of the last episode resembles the beginning of the first episode, with everyone engrossed in their cell phone conversations and a new Maromi-like idol taking Maromi's place. Also, Maniwa has taken the place of the old man, the 'Master' that died who guided him against Lil' Slugger. This is why he was doing the math equation. I believe it's possible the look on his face resulted from perhaps discovering that once he got to the end, the equation merely started back at the beginning.
As for how Lil' Slugger manifested into reality... Well, I think the idea was that he was born within Tsukiko but grew into something tangible as more people believed in him, talked about him, and above all called to him as someone to solve their problems. A symbol of how chaos starts small, starts with one person and spirals out of control from there. It's abstract, really.

No problem! Actually, part of the credit goes to the Adult Swim message board. That's where I found the quote from the last prophecy.
