TOKYO EPrime Minister Junichiro Koizumi pledged Thursday to help reduce unpaid overtime work prevalent in corporate Japan, and improve labor conditions through ways such as reviewing the labor law. He also urged employers and employees to crack down on unpaid overtime work.
The prime minister suggested the gulf between full-time and part-time workers in wages and other working conditions be redressed, saying, "It is necessary to provide fair treatment." (Kyodo News)
Sadly, with the current employment laws, there's nothing Koizumi can do besides have the L.S.O. give out warnings and ask employers to treat their employees fairly. It's amazing the difference in the overtime between the U.S. in Japan. Here there are a lot of people that will work overtime each day for some good extra cash and yet not put in the same amount of hours as a Japanese worker.
