Okinawa governor arrives in U.S. to urge cut in military presence
TOKYO — Okinawa Gov. Keiichi Inamine arrived in Washington on Saturday to ask the U.S. government to reduce Okinawa's burden of hosting U.S. military bases as part of its planned realignment of U.S. troops in Japan.
"I'd like to make efforts so that the United States can understand Okinawa's insistence when specific realignment measures are discussed," Inamine told reporters upon arrival. "The Japanese and U.S. governments have agreed on efforts to reduce Okinawa's excessive burden in the realignment talks"
I'm not sure if I posted it or not, but not too long ago some citizens of Okinawa actually sued because of noise pollution from the U.S. military and won.
