Fire engine collides with 2 cars after running red light
TSUKUBA, Ibaraki -- Three people were injured when a fire engine collided with two cars at an intersection here after running a red light while heading to a fire on Tuesday night, police said.
At around 8:20 p.m., a fire engine went through a red traffic light along a prefectural road in Tsukuba while sounding its siren, and collided with two cars, local police said.
In the accident, Hiroaki Okada, 41, and Shigenori Aoki, 26, the drivers of the cars, as well as Kenji Takahashi, 38, a volunteer firefighter, were slightly injured.
The fire engine, which belongs to a local fire brigade in Tsukuba, was on its way to a building in the city that had caught fire, according to investigators.
At least no one died. That would have been crazy.

Are you supposed to stop you car and pull over when an emergency vehicle comes by? I don't know about in japan, but any emergency vehicle can run red lights and stops signs. I think, however, that they can only do it if their lights are running. I wonder if they honked their horn?
