Do your parents approve of the crazy rock made by Japanese men who dress like women for no reason? (don't be offended, but that's probably what they say)
My mum approves and she actually really likes L'Arc~en~Ciel, Siam Shade, and The Pillows although she knows not of what they sing. If there were a live concert around here, she'd most definately let me go since I showed her a bunch of concert footage and stuff. She does find Visual Kei very weird though as well as myself since I like guys that look like chics. I do tend to hide some music videos from her though.

My mom does. She likes Sex Machineguns (she thinks Anchang is the hottest man ever born), Concerto Moon, Loudness, Kozi, and some Dir en grey and early X songs. She can tell if someone's a girl or a guy, which is good because she takes me to conventions and wont bother me about my gender bending friends.
She has several pictures of J-rockers in her bathroom because they "inspire" her when she does her make up, three of which are Yu~ki, one Kozi, and one Anchang. x-x She wont sit down and watch a PV or a concert though because she can never find the time.
I don't know about my dad. He's never around and I doubt he even knows I listen to rock... >E

My mum and I are best friends, but we've never shared the same interest in music. She doesn't listen to it other than what's on the Radio every now and then. We've been through the whole 'MOM! Look at this band' and I have posters hanging up here and there in my room for her to see. She's never mentioned anything about it. She readily accepted it without a 'yes' or a 'no' expression. I'm the only one in my household who listens to it though, outside of my little brother who favors a little bit of Dir En Grey (I bought him his first J-rock CD for christmas. VULGAR. Aren't 'I a good influence?) I think my parents have never minded because they like the fact that I've seperated myself from the 'popular' style of American Teens and I'm who I am despite what everyone else is in favor of. It's almost like an underlined pride. Anyway my house is J-rock approved.

My mom doesn't understand, sadly. I won't say she dissaproves, because she doesn't speak against it, but she does roll her eyes whenever I mention something about a foreign band... or anime and manga for that matter. She constantly asks 'What's the point of listening to it if you can't understand what they're saying?' She makes fun of it sometimes too, because when she thinks 'Japanese rock' she thinks of this old '80s hair band that tried to release a metal song in the US and flopped. That's about the extent of it, although she's never seen any of the bands either. I don't bother trying to show her because that would only make it worse. What can I say, she's southern and a little old fashioned about such things.

Rekusu, your mom's awesome. >.>
My mother doesn't "approve", she complains everytime I have something Japanese (or any other language for that matter). My dad doesn't mind, though. He likes J-rock, actually.

Some parents are against it for reasons having to do with separation syndrome. For example... Three years ago when I first started showing interest my mom would say things to me like 'What happened to your passion for blah blah' or something like that. It actually hurt my feelings that she would accuse me of being a 'fickle' person. Anyway, when my future plans began to take form both of my parents did the 'WE DON'T APPROVE OF THAT IDEA' dance, but after about a year or so they started being proud of it. I'm dancing around the subject, what I mean is that when they see their child taking interest in something outside of their own culture red flags go up because it offers their child somewhere even FURTHER to go off to than college. Anyone get what I'm saying or did I just confuse you?XD

I told my mother when I was 6 though that I was moving to Japan and my will has only grown stronger, so she's pretty much accepted it.
