A short while back, Ayuspeed and I got into a discussion about what an FF8 sequel would be like. What do you think? Some highlights in our conversation: -It shouldn't be with the original cast. There's really nothing left for them to do. Their conflicts are all resolved. Let's let Squall and Rinoa live happily ever after. -Although it shouldn't be the original cast, a game 100% as Laguna would still kick ass . There's still a lot to be explored with his character. We really didn't get to live out a storyline him we just saw bits and pieces of his life. -The game (if without Laguna) should be in the semi-far future from the game's ending say 100 years or something because there really are no immediate conflicts. -Final Fantasy VIII did have a great and very original universe (um...but still with a lot of the traditional Final Fantasy stuff). The game should focus more on the politics of the world because it was a big part of the original game, but a bit unexplored as say a main element. By the politics we'd like to see a war. YOU HEARD ME! Yeah, another war would be great to tie in the political aspect of the game, give us a better exploration of the countries, and make a good scenerio.

I couldn't agree with you two anymore despite being a Squall fan. It's a great universe they shouldn't let go to waste.

I'm going to quote myself from what I wrote on another forum.
"I would like to see a "sequel" to Final Fantasy VIII. It was a different sort of Final Fantasy with it's own unique flavor and you know what? I'd like to see that flavor again. A friend and I came up with the idea of having a "sequel" to Final Fantasy VIII that occurs much later after Final Fantasy VIII (at least 100 years) and has none of the older characters (obviously). All final fantasy games seem to have their own world (except for X and X-2) and why not have a new Final Fantasy that takes place in the world of Final Fantasy VIII?"
"Let me clarify, when I say world I mean not only the physical world itself, but the politics and sorcery and so on ... There would have to be some sort of political aspect to it (that would play a large part in the storyline of the game) and maybe even an aspect of history. (the events of Final Fantasy VIII would have to be in the past, and at least some part of the storyline of this game) It would be in the future, so you could see the effects of the past, how things had changed, etc ... So everything else wouldn't actually be totally new, it would just be in the future."
As a member of that forum wrote,
"If Final Fantasy XII can use Ivalice from Tactics, why can't Final Fantasy VIII?"
Exactly.

Yeah, that'd be pretty cool. You'd have to know how to make it work, though. It'd have to be masterly planned.

He should post in the Introductions board so I can give him a proper greeting The person who replied to your thread, ayuspeed, gave me an idea. What if the FFVIII sequel was like a Tactics game set in the universe since our main focus is the politics. I think it would be really cool if it were like a combination of both systems.

Hmm lina ... I love the ff8 system so I'm not so sure on a Tactics system but ... hmm ... I don't know ... maybe tactic elements. Like more strategy in missions. (deciding on which way to go, having some parties in stand in certain places) So maybe a 3 party system. That way all characters could level up equally. (start with one part move to two then three) Each party could be set at certain points but the main character would have to remain in the main party and sometimes certain characters would have to be in certain parties due to the story. How about that?

Yeah, that's more along the lines of what I was thinking, but I'd definately like to see a job system in it (which could perhaps determine the tale of the main character...like a multiple ending CC thing) and the junction system because everyone had to have loved the junction system.

Hm. But with a job system you wouldn't be allowed to do what the original game allowed you to do. To "create" your own "jobs." You could make one person a healer, a fighter, etc ... Final Fantasy VIII really allowed for some customization so ... hm ..

There could be a way to include the FF5-style job system, but then again I've realized with the job system idea of mine, I'm making this into a huge epic story like Xenogears.
