Hundreds of years ago, Shido left his hometown in search for a cure, but while he was away he met Cain. Cain made Shido a vampire and his lover. Shido did return to his home, but to find his mother dead and little sister dying. With his help, his sister became a vampire, but soon after killed herself. This upset Shido so much that he ran away. Cain punishes Shido for this by taking most of his mortal memories.
In the present day, Shido is a private detective, specializing in eliminating nightbreeds. He is accompanied by his assistant, Riho (whom he turns into a vampire), his usual client and friend, Yayoi (who pays Shido with her blood), and his urban fairy friend Guni (who claims to bring people happiness...only claims). Shido refuses to harm humans, but that doesn't mean he still doesn't kick ass. He has the ability to turn his blood into a sword and other weapons.
I really enjoy this storyline (because I love vampires and investigative entertainment...and they show an orgy in ep 4 or 5...and Shido is hot). It's a short series though, only 12 eps. The voice acting's really good. Most of the actors are recognizable from Rurouni Kenshin and the opening theme by Buck-Tick is really cool. It fits very nicely with the series. NightWalker is very high on my 'To Buy' list (it costs only $20 and it just premiered on Anime Selects and is already on episode 9 ). I highly recommend this series to anyone.
