I didn't see the Metroid series headed in this direction... This week, the game has been pretty much officially revealed in a Nintendo DS catalog, now appearing at retail locations such as GameStop and Electronics Boutique.
According to the catalog, Metroid Pinball, titled here as Project Code: Metroid Pinball, is in development at Fuse Games, team responsible for Mario Pinball. Though Mario Pinball turned out less than stellar, we have higher hopes for Metroid Pinball because of higher system capabilities -- Fuse Games is formed from team members who've handled impressive pinball titles on the PC, including the Pro Pinball series.

Not really that surprising. I mean Samus does turn into a ball and roll around. Same thing with Sonic (but faster) and Sega made a Sonic Pinball.

Sega made two Sonic pinball games.
Sonic Spinball, where they hit him all over, and Sonic Pinball Party, where they hit around an actual pinball.
But Metroid Pinball looks cool, and with that idea, they can do some cool stuff.
