TOKYO — A total of 5,583 500-yen coins, suspected to be counterfeit, have been discovered in the prefectures of Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Tokyo, the Finance Ministry said Thursday.
Another 9,982 500-yen coins, also suspected to be fake, have been found in some savings accounts at post offices in the three prefectures, the ministry said. Japan Post said it will suspend dealing with coins at its automated teller machines and post office counters in Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Tokyo. (Kyodo News)
This actually amuses me since someone made 500 yen counterfeits. 500 yen! That's it! Can you imagine someone trying to buy a car or something with a 1000+ 500 yen coins or someone at the post office or bank trying to trade in all those coins for larger paper currency?

although your way is funnier, this is probably the way they thought
some one owns a store they give the fake coins as change, and after a while your got all that money in your pocket, most likely buying fake cigars and cheap apple juice
