TOKYO — The transport ministry will test language assistance in English, Chinese and Korean for foreigners who use taxis in Tokyo, Osaka and 16 other prefectures from Saturday through the end of February, the ministry announced Friday.
Translation services will be provided by a language center that opens in Tokyo accessible via the mobile phones of taxi drivers working for 64 taxi companies and those of 117 individual taxi operators. A total of 3,651 taxis will be able to offer such assistance with mobile charges paid for by the taxi operators.
That really doesn't matter because even around here it's hard to find a taxi dirver you can understand.
