17-year-old youth barges into Osaka school, stabs 3 adults; one dead
OSAKA — A 17-year-old boy intruded into the elementary school he graduated from in Neyagawa, Osaka Prefecture, on Monday afternoon, and stabbed a male teacher to death with a knife and left two female staff members injured, one of them seriously, police said.
Mitsuaki Kamozaki, 52, died in hospital, the police and emergency medical care center officials said. Mizue Tomomura, 57, also a teacher at the school, was seriously injured while Akemi Fukushima, a 45-year-old dietician, was also wounded, they said.
No students at Neyagawa Municipal Chuo Elementary School were harmed in the incident that took place shortly after 3 p.m.
The police arrested the boy at the elementary school that he once attended. He has not given a motive for the attack, they said.
The boy, who lives in the city, initially asked via an interphone at the school gate whether a teacher with a certain name was in, the police said.
After a staff member said no, he apparently entered the school through the gate and stabbed Kamozaki in the school yard, they said. He then moved to the teachers' office on the second floor and attacked the two female staff members, the police said.
