TOKYO — A woman was arrested Monday on suspicion of drowning her 3-year-old son in their home bathtub in Tokyo's Shinagawa Ward in January, police said. Akiko Hatakeyama, 30, is suspected of killing her son Ryusei by drowning him in the tub at around 10 a.m. on Jan. 30.
The mother confessed to drowning the boy out of impulse, the police said. A 34-year-old man who lived with the woman called for an ambulance in the afternoon after he found the boy floating in the tub. Hatakeyama has said she drowned the boy after being told by the man that he could not accept the child, according to the police.
Pretty sad if you ask me to choose a new lover over your own child.
