Sumo wrestlers encourage children at school of fatal stabbing
Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at 07:50 JST OSAKA — Sumo wrestlers served hot pot during lunchtime Tuesday to encourage children at a primary school in Osaka Prefecture following the fatal stabbing of a teacher at the premises last month, for which a graduate in his teens was arrested.
Some 20 people, including wrestlers, from the Sakaigawa stable from Tokyo, cooked the "chanko" hot pot, good for 700 people, in the grounds of Neyagawa Municipal Chuo Elementary School in Neyagawa, as they are staying in the city for the spring tournament beginning Sunday in Osaka. Stablemaster Sakaigawa said, "We wanted to help them as we are staying near the school. We hope the children will cheer up a little."
That's really a nice thing to do. What the article is referring to as 'hot pot' is actually chanko nabe.
