JR East to test bullet train able to travel at 360 km per hour TOKYO — East Japan Railway Co said Wednesday that it will begin testing a Shinkansen bullet train in June that will operate at a maximum speed of 360 kilometers per hour.
Currently, West Japan Railway Co's Sanyo Shinkansen and high-speed railways in France and Germany are the world's fastest trains, with 300 kph in maximum operating speed, according to JR East company officials.
That's almost 224 mph. I'd hate to look out the window .
