NEW DELHI — Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Tuesday that Japan must "face up to history squarely" on its actions during World War II and the period leading up to it, and how it tells that history in its own schoolbooks.
"The aggression war waged by Japan inflicted huge and tremendous suffering and hardships on people in China, Asia and the world at large," he was quoted as telling reporters in New Delhi, where he is nearing the end of a four-day visit. "The core issue in China-Japan relations is that Japan needs to face up to history squarely," Wen said, while adding that the neighbours should continue to work "to further friendly ties." Wen does bring up a good point. Japan has sort of erased WWII from their history except for the atomic bomb. They've never really open their war records, given an official apology, have sort of white-washed it in textbooks, and other things.
