Please list your favorite classic films and a description of them. If you haven't seen any pre-70's don't post here. By classic, I mean anything before 1970.
1. My Fair Lady - 1964
This is my favorite movie of all time and the Anniversary VHS is one of my most cherished possessions. This is the story about a street urchin (Audrey Hepburn) who is trained into a lady by a professor.
2. Funny Face - 1957
Audrey plays a bookworm who becomes a model thanks to a photographer (Fred Astaire). Audrey looks more beautiful in this movie than in any other in my opinion. The scenary is wonderful, the songs are nice (although I don't recall them as well as those in my fair lady...wouldn't it be loverly?), and there are some quite humorous moments.
3. Breakfast at Tiffany's - 1961
I can't help it. I love Audrey Hepburn. This is the story of a socialite who becomes interested in the new tenant of her apartment building. There are so many good characters in this movie that really give you the sense that you're a tenant as well.
4. The rest of Audrey's pre 70s movies including Roman Holiday and A Nun's Story (savin some time).
5. Lord of the Flies - 1961
This is the story about a bunch of boys shipwreaked on an island. This movie was one of the few that really disgusted me, because it's such an indepth look to how fragile and barbaric the human psyche is. Now, although this is a black and white movie and the cast I believe were all amateurs, I highly highly recommend this movie. If anyone has the book, may I please please borrow.
6. Spartacus - 1960
This is such an interesting movie about a Roman slave, Spartacus, around the time of Christ. It's such an epic that I'm not sure how to describe in a way that is most respectful to this film. The movie follows Spartacus's life which has quite a few ups and downs and plot twists. This movie may be the epitome of why I like old films. It's very interesting to see that filmmkers back then could create such a realistic world without the huge budget or special effects. It really makes me pity the new films and how overmarketed they are. You don't need to pour millions of dollars into a movie so people will enjoy it. These classic films have a sort of magic to them, that allows you to just enjoy the movie. Also, since I got a little off subject, Kirk Douglas is such a hell of an actor. I can't picture him really as anything, but Spartacus.
7. The Robe - 1953
Now although I no longer believe in Christianity, that doesn't mean I can't enjoy something Christian (like this book Miss Briczinski had about the visions of Mary which I just fell in love with). This movie is about a Roman soldier who was in charge of the crucifixion and later converted to Christianity. This was such an interesting film and Miss B. actually told me to read the book as well. They had it at B.F. Jones library, but it was signed out last time I was there. I'm rarely able to go down there though and my library card is expired 90% of the time, so I have to find a way to get my hands on that book.
8. Lawrence of Arabia - 1962
This is a movie about T.E. Lawrence, the eccentric British officer who united the desert tribes of Arabia against the Turks during World War I. Iwatched this movie because my Mum-Mum and 2 uncles recommended it. It's really good, but a bit long and sometimes slow-paced.
Ok, there are my top 8, but I also like the films of...
Charlie Chan
Tarzan
Laurel and Hardy
Charlie Chaplin
The Three Stooges
