Last Quarter is a story about a spirit nicknamed "Eve" (played by Chiaki Kuriyama from Kill Bill and Battle Royale). This spirit is caught between two identities one as a girl named Mizuki who is in the hospital and recently broke up with her cheating boyrfriend and the other as a girl named Sayaka a girl who has been dead for almost 20 years and promised to meet her boyfriend Adam (played by Hyde) in Heaven. The spirit is confused all she can remember is her boyfriend Adam so a girl Eve had met on the spirit plane, the girl's friend, and later Mizuki's boyfriend begin a search to help the spirit, but after Eve recalls her lives which will she choose to keep on going living as Mizuki or to meet Adam once again?
I really liked this movie. The story was very original, but there were a lot of downsides. It may have been because I didn't watch it straight through, but for the first 20 minutes of the movie, I had no idea what was going on. I didn't like how really the only music to the movie was Hyde's "Cape of Storms". Despite it being a good song, I thought it was a slightly cheesy promotional gimmick (they even showed the music video on t.v. in the movie). I didn't like how they kept playing it over and over and called it "Last Quarter". I think they should've just done an original song. I didn't like the really cheesy sequence where the boy explained what the Last Quarter was. Lastly, I didn't like the ending, but that may have just been me. It was a very interesting ending, but it made my mind cringe.
Although there aren't many good points to the movie besides the story, it's still an overall good movie and I did enjoy it.
