Linkin Park, the rock band that mixes awesome hip hop-ish beats into their music. You've got to love these guys. They put out great songs, with rather...angry or depressing lyrics, and albums that could kick your ass.
What's your favorite song(s) by them?

I love Lp and have yet to meet someone who doesn't like at least one song. My favorite song is "Crawling".

So, out of curiosity, has anyone else here listened to the new album, and if so, what are your thoughts?
I listened to previews on iTunes and I've come to the contradictory conclusion that this new sound of theirs is both good and bad.
Good because I really don't see them being able to grow or expand the nu metal genre. Especially now that, as a trend, that sound has kind of died out. I used to be a huge fan of their music, but over their years of silence I lost interest. Maybe it's because I grew older and changed, or maybe I just played my LP CDs to the point of lifetime burnout, but I just don't care for their older stuff much anymore. The inflexibility of their former sound and lyrical content was a definite weakness, I think. That said, I like some of the new stuff they've done with this album. It sounds more mature on some levels, manages to be emotional without shoving it in your face constantly. And it proves that the band itself has merit beyond the mere novelty of putting together rock and rap.
That said, it's bad in some ways too. Their sound before was unique. Even when other nu metal bands emerged and older bands started chasing the trend, Linkin Park still managed to distinguish themselves as being masters of that craft. When you heard a Linkin Park song you definitely knew who it was you were listening to. This is where 'Minutes to Midnight' falls short. Having scaled back on their nu metal sound, Linkin Park lost a bit of their originality. Many of the songs on the new album, in my opinion, fall beneath the bar into the realm of mediocre. They sound to me like several other bands I hear on the radio, with only a few songs standing apart as an exception.
Well, I really didn't mean to ramble, but I tried to kick up conversation at least. No one hate me for my opinion! I still think their talented, really!
