According to articles on Excite Japan , Infoseek and orginally Gendai.net Orange Range has alledgedly taken credit for music that was not their own.
The articles, originating from the entertainment gossip magazine Gendai, explain that before the Annual NHK Kouhaku Uta Gessen performance this past December, NHK was asked by Sony to change the display of the song "Locolotion" so as to be credited to Carole King and Gerry Coffin , rather than Orange Range. Corrections were then made to other songs inside of their recent album "musiQ".
Many of the songs in question are intentional parodies, but according to some, Sony may have hesitated until the last minute to credit tunes to their original authors due to an unwillingness to damper Orange Range's rising popularity. One of their more attractive points to fans, is the the original composition of their music.
Fans however, while stil supporting Orange Range whole heartedly, are worried about their spirit. During a recent Pop Jam performance, the usual energy seen in previous performances was absent. Even the consistently cheerful Katchan (Drummer) had a hard time keeping up a smile.
While the issue has yet to blow up larger, this event comes after the return of Hello ! Project's Natsumi Abe who was caught plagarizing last Winter in numerous books over her past. She was restrained from activity for two months.
Sony has yet to comment on the situation.
This actually isn't anything new since a lot of people knew OR songs sounded like someone else's, but it seems that this big scandal is happening since magazines have nothing else to gossip about. Orange Range hasn't really denied anything nor taken all the credit, just on a few things Sony has put the correct credits on later. It seems that all the Japanese fans are sticking by them which is a bit unusual since in Japan its normal to abandon the celebs and such they like when the celebs are in trouble. I doubt OR's tour will be cancelled either since it's still sold out. The problem is the bands morale. At a recent Pop Jam performance the band really weren't themselves, low energy and sad and stuff. I really really hope they don't stress themselves out over this. I'd hate to see them break up . Well a message to Orange Range that they may never get to them, but the thought still counts. Don't worry, you guys! Personally, I will support you and I'm sure so will many others. You guys still kick ass! Victory will be your's again!!
